One of the few local opportunities to capture an good 'sweep' of railway, unencumbered by the dreaded steel fencing, is only about a mile from my home. Conveniently, the overlooking fields provide ideal dog walking for 'Jess' and I, thus killing two birds with one stone! A Newcastle-bound trans-Pennine express from Manchester completes this attractive view. In the left distance the top of Leeds' tallest building (110 metres), Bridgewater Place is just visible. The foot crossing seen by the white fence is virtually blind to approaching traffic leaving the cutting. A much safer crossing 500 yards to the left of this view was closed because a young child was recently killed trying to retrieve her errant dog. This was the first such recorded accident. The detour now adds about a mile to the route on foot and has now become a far riskier journey!
