Remarks & Notes |
Having crested the grade deep inside the 4893 feet long Musconetcong Tunnel at Pattenburg NJ, 20K exits the east portal. The tunnel was constructed by the Leigh Valley RR in 1928 and was double tracked, as was most of the main line from the New York area into Pennsylvania. After Conrail became the owner of this route, they single tracked the tunnel down the center to allow double stacks on this lane. The unusual combination of fall colors and snow was a result of a freak storm that covered most of NE in snow the day before. |
