A profile of locomotives featuring 1970s technology line up at Union Pacific's North Yard shops: Amtrak F40PH #310, built by EMD in July 1979, is serving today as Metro-North Commuter Railroad #4194 (converted to an F40PH-2CAT), Union Pacific U30C 2885, built by GE in May 1974, was retired and traded to GE on a new C40-8 in June 1987, and UP 3715, built by EMD in January 1980, was retired by UP on November 29, 2000. As a side note, this property is now owned by the Utah Transit Authority called the Warm Springs Maintenance Facility and is off limits to trespassing. Not so in 1986 when visiting the North Yard shop area only required a hardhat and a responsible, safety conscious attitude.
