Remarks & Notes |
The C628 fleet on CNW pulled its last ore train around Christmas 1986. The 25 surviving units were then stored in Escanaba until 1990 as the CNW tried to sell the lines north of Green Bay like they had in the FRV and DME cases. It never happened and as the units wasted away in outside storage it became increasingly obvious after a couple years had gone by that their next trip would not be powering ore trains for a new short line but to a scrapyard somewhere. In this shot the 6715 rests along with some retired ore and tank cars in the old Number 6 ore yard, last having ran over 2 years earlier. It was sold to NRE in April 1990 and made the trip to IL for scrapping. |
