Remarks & Notes |
The sun had nearly set both literally and figuratively on the CNW Alco fleet when I shot this photo of the 6725 and 6720 muscling a cut of loads up to the dumper shed in the last light of a May evening. Normally a single C628 had been assigned to this job with a Baldwin/EMD before 1980 and then a 4 axle Alco after they arrived from South Dakota. But the Baldwin hybrids were long gone and the 4 axle Alco's were just about on there last legs by this date, so pairs of big Alco's were in vogue for the summer and fall of 1986. By Christmas the Alco's would be in storage and Escanaba would be a lot less interesting as far as train watching goes. |
