NS 1605, SR 3243, NS 9720, NS 1385 head east out of Mullens on one of the coal branches that seemed to litter the area. I had always been interested in the area as my grandfather had been born in Mullens and had originally worked for the Virginian before moving on to spend a few years firing on the CB&Q. Thankfully there were still a few trains that were operating in the area when I finally made it there and the Mullens Motor Barn was still standing back in 1988. As an aside his last name was Mullans, seemed like a quite a deal to a young kid, a Mullans from Mullens!
