After the WC takeover of the FRV/GBW in the late summer of 1993 WC units tended to work quite often north of Green Bay on the CNW trains that ran from Green Bay to Iron Mountain/Quinnesec, this was done as it had been in FRV days to pay back HP hours for high horsepower CNW units operating through from Butler to North Green Bay. The winter of 1993/1994 was cold in the extreme and WC, already having trouble coping with record traffic tended to give the low lights of the roster to CNW. To start with a few ex GBW Alcos were tried, they didn't last long due to failures in the cold conditions and no longer having the Norwood Shop in Green Bay to keep them in fine form. The WC then sent these Ex CNW geeps inherited from FRV to operate on the PRANA/ANPRA trains. This was a little more successful, but CNW power in the form of an ex CR/CNW 5510 trailing WC 4159 and 4310 on PRANA at Powers still was sent in to help out.
