Ah, Nipton. This "town" in the middle of the fabled Los Angeles and Salt Lake boasts not only top-notch accommodations in the form of the Nipton Hotel, but a convenience store and a charming little café. A stay in Nipton rewards the boarder a glorious night of hearing trains working hard up the steep grades on the LA&SL, as well a stunning view in the morning of insulators glinting in the morning sun, mountains obscured only by the haze of a new day teeming with the possibility of trains, and on this particular morning, a beautifully lit UP stack train, rocketing eastbound on its way to Las Vegas, and points east.
