Remarks & Notes |
Green River, WY sits atop one of the largest natural Soda Ash deposits in the world. To get this product to hungry Asian markets the soda must cross Union Pacific's Encina Hill. Encina is a ruling 2.2% grade from the bottom of the Snake River Valley at Huntington. The head-end of the train sits on a grade just over 1%, while 20 cars back the rest of train drapes down the 2.2% towards the Famous Durkee loop. The Mid-Train DPU helpers are just out of site around the last bend. |
