When BNSF Chairman, President and CEO Matt Rose decides it's time to tour his railroad, he does so in style. On a spectacular spring evening in the Columbia Basin, Executive Inspection Trip O-NWESHM2-11A rolls below the vertical basalt walls of the cut at Crater with clean BNSF 7400 leading business cars Cajon Pass, Stampede Pass, Trinchera Pass, Raton Pass, Stevens Pass, John S. Reed and, on the rear, theater car William Barstow Strong. Ahead lies a fast run across the arid Eastern Washington landscape, a quick downpour in Quincy notwithstanding. This trip, sponsored by both Rose and COO Carl Ice, had started that morning in Vancouver, B.C., and would end the next afternoon some 950 miles distant in Shelby, MT.
