A long eastbound bulk train of finished lumber approaches the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon at Sutro. 11,749 ft, Mt. Timpanogos is visible on the north side of Utah Valley. Rio Grande's westward main track veers off off to the right, taking a shorter but steeper route along the Mapleton Bench to Springville. A large plume of steam from Geneva Steel can be seen above the two flat car loads of lumber, about 18 miles away by rail.
