The 1979 Pacific Railroad Society "Mountain Outin" passenger special, with Amtrak 518 and Amtrak 517, is coasting down the short hill from Sandcut as it heads eastbound up Tehachapi Pass. Cotton Belt SSW 9295, SSW 9385, and SSW 9059 wait in the Bena helper spur for the next SP eastbound to assist up the hill. A few minutes before this photo was taken, I witnessed a rollover auto accident on the other side of Sandcut, which might explain the lack of autos chasing the train.
