Remarks & Notes |
Gliding through the S curves of Maryhill, WA another grain train destined for Kalama, WA and export rolls down the Columbia River George. BNSF's predecessor Spokane Portland & Seattle and Union Pacific both benefited from numerous line changes along the Columbia River George route with the building of the lock & dam system by the US Army Corp of Engineers. At the risk of sounding redundant, it's a "river grade" route from Pasco to Vancouver on BNSF and likewise from Hinkle to Portland on UPRR. Thus The George is a perfect conduit for both systems for the many heavy tonnage bulk commodity trains and their contents to be exported overseas. The train shown above originated in Montana and is negotiating one of the many line changes along the way. |
