Remarks & Notes |
With good reason, the Settle and Carlisle route is world famous for its stunning scenery. One of many bridges and viaducts on the line, Dent Head Viaduct was built between 1869 and 1875 for the Midland Railway Company. It was built from massive blocks of Dent marble (actually a type of limestone) quarried from outcrops beneath the viaduct itself. The K4 Mogul looks completely at home here in a landscape reminiscent of Scotland's equally famous West Highland line. |
