The heritage locomotive gathering at Spencer, NC was an impressive sight to behold. Everyone has their favorites, and it was only natural that the N&W and Southern units would get the prime positions, but for me the "Standard Railroad of the World" holds a special place, and so I captured this image in which the Pennsy unit stands out just a bit from the crowd.
There are times when many engines, cars or cabooses are concentrated in a location. Such sites are for storage, economic reasons, active power needs or for rebuilding. For others, wear and tear have brought their usefulness to and end.
