Remarks & Notes
ST Train AD-1 is about to cross Caretaker's Road in Walloomsac, NY as it heads west after interchanging with Vermont Railway at North Bennington, VT. Historically, Walloomsac is famous for being the town in which the American Revolutionary War Battle of Bennington was fought. The Battle of Bennington was a key part of the American victory in the Battle of Saratoga--the turning point of the war. In August 1777, British General John Burgoyne sent a detachment under Lieutenant Colonel Friedrich Baum with the intention of getting much-needed supplies at Bennington, VT. However, the British detachment was stopped by American militia under General John Stark in engagements here at Walloomsac. Due to the battle's proximity to Bennington, VT, it became known as the Battle of Bennington.
