Many shortlines have ended up in the hands of large holding companies and have lost that hometown identity, looking more like an aggressive Class 1. Then you have the Gulf, Colorado & San Saba that stands as the main operation of the parent company American Railroads. With the exception of a couple switching operations, this is the only railroad they operate. It still has that shortline character of days back when a small group of men and women gave all they had and then some to keep everything rolling.
