Remarks & Notes
A BNSF Railway trackage rights manifest from Stockton, CA arrives in Salt Lake City via Union Pacific's Lynndyl Subdivision at Buena Vista. The train will change crews at Roper Yard with a Utah Railway crew forwarding the 79 car manifest to Provo Yard, its final destination. BNSF's trackage rights agreement on the UPRR between Denver, CO and Stockton, CA has been in effect for 16 years, since the UP-SP merger on Sept. 11, 1996. The two tracks veering off to the right are the former Western Pacific mainline to Oakland and shortline operator Salt Lake Garfield & Western's route to the Salt Lake International Center business park west of the airport. In the middle background above the trees is Kennecott Copper's smokestack. At 1,215 feet in height, it is the tallest free-standing structure west of the Mississippi River, the fourth tallest smokestack in the world and the thirty-third tallest free-standing structure on earth.
