Remarks & Notes |
The east slope of Encina Hill, also known as Hindman Hill is the final 2.2% grade out of the Snake River Valley. The heavy grade begins when the rails leave the course of the Burnt River and begin to follow Pritchard Creek up a shallow Box Canyon. The Rails makes a sharp horseshoe curve around the walls of the canyon. Here a Soda laden unit train heads up the 2.2%. 8 units muscle this train against gravity. note; the helpers on the far side of the curve, and the stack train making its way east.... |
