A chilly autumn morning made for a spectacular show as "Black 5" No. 45407 charged across Glenfinnan Viaduct with the daily Jacobite steam train from Fort William to Mallaig. Deep in Glen Finnan, the sounds of the hard-working locomotive echoed off the rocky crags, punctuated by a haunting note from its whistle.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
