On Mother's Day 2010, Montana Rail Link's night Gas Local heads west in DeSmet, Montana. DeSmet is where the 10th Subdivision up Evaro Hill breaks off of the 4th Subdivision. Typically, the Gas Local will go up the 10th, but because of the extra tonnage on the front end (consisting of MRL boxcars headed for storage in Paradise), the train will take the easier grades of the 4th Sub. If you look closely on the right side of the photo, you'll see a large "M" for the University of Montana which is located just below the hillside in Missoula. But in addition to the M, people added the letters O and M on the hill as a tribute to all the Mom's on their special day.
