Remarks & Notes |
Electric cogwheel railcars Bhe 1/2 # 24 and # 22 (both built by SLM and MFO in 1937) on a grade of about 48.0 % below Pilatus Kulm. The world's steepest cogwheel railway was inaugurated in 1889 and goes from Alpnachstad (440 meter a.s.l.) to the Pilatus mountain (2073 meter a.s.l.). The gauge is 800 mm and the Locher cogwheel system is unique. Because the railway is not running in wintertime from mid november till may, a picture with so much snow is very unusual! |
