Remarks & Notes |
Former EMCO and later LTV Steel and now Cliffs Erie F units 4210 with B units 4224, 4225, and 4223 sit near what was once the pellet yard of Erie Mining Co. and later LTV Steel. These units helped to pull over 300 million tons of taconite from the mine to the dock on the shore of Lake Superior during the mines 43 years of operation which ceased in 2001. It's surprising how much and how fast nature can re-claim ground with new vegetation and trees where once a huge mine, plant and raillroad used to operate 24/7 for the better part of 43 years straight. |
