Remarks & Notes
A Utah Railway coal train heads east with 81 empties for the mines in Carbon County. The 9012 has an interesting history. It was built by EMD as an SD45-2 for the Santa Fe in May 1972. By July 1987 it was rebuilt in San Bernardino, CA with a 4200-horsepower Caterpillar Model 3612 engine. By March 1993 it would be sold to Morrison-Knudsen, reconditioned and equipped with Maxitrax wheel slip control, and leased to the Utah Railway. By July 1995, it was returned to Boise for engine work when the Caterpillar engine was removed and replaced by a standard 3200 HP 20 cylinder EMD engine. When its lease expired in Sept. 2001, the 9012 left Utah Railway's active roster.

Do you ever get the feeling as a model railroader, that you just might be creating something not "prototypical?" Same here.
