Remarks & Notes
Conrail on the Corridor: It has been many years since heavy freight traffic has regularly traveled this particular portion of Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. One lingering after-effect of Hurricane Sandy is the shutdown of NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line. Conrail trains to and from Browns Yard in Sayreville, NJ routinely use a short section of the Coast Line which connects CR’s Chemical Coast and Amboy Secondary tracks (this includes the long Raritan River Bridge). Until the Coast Line can be reopened, Conrail has been forced to route Browns Yard traffic via the Northeast Corridor from Lane interlocking in Newark, NJ to a little-used connection with the southern end of the Amboy Secondary at Midway interlocking in Monmouth Jct., NJ. Here OI-8 is heading west on track 3 with an impressive 3-unit consist and 80 cars for Browns Yard in tow.
