It’s after sunset on September 15, 2011, as a BNSF grain train passes through Trout Creek, Montana, under a sky full of pastel colors. A GE C44-9W/ES44DC combo powers the train up front, while another Dash 9 follows up as a rear DPU. Soon, darkness will fall upon Frog Pond, and our sensory perception will slowly shift from eyes to ears. All we will hear is an occasional fish jump or coyote yelp. And if we’re lucky too, we’ll hear more air horns whistling westbound through Trout Creek.
