| After traversing the Waimakariri gorge, Staircase and Broken River, the TranzAlpine passenger train reaches relatively flat land for a brief period as it heads toward the Southern Alps on a lovely clear Spring morning.
These nicely upgraded panorama-windowed blue AO passenger cars were originally built in the early 1940s (!) and will be replaced shortly with new stock designed and built in NZ. This was supposed to happen last year however the decision was made to equip NZ's other "long distance" trains first. |
