Remarks & Notes
Amtrak’s No. 3, the Southwest Chief, slams over the east switch at Simpson, Colorado, on February 26, 1999. Trailing the three GE P42DCs is a baggage car, eight Superliners, a former F40PH rebuilt (cab-bagage car) being sent west to Los Angeles, seven Express boxcars, two MHCs (Material Handling Cars), and lastly, on the rear are three Roadrailers. The 21-car train is making good time, as the slowly-lowering semaphore adjoining the second Superliner suggests!
