Remarks & Notes |
LMS class 3P 2-6-2T No 40057 at Measurements Halt the the Odham to Delph push/pull train in the early 1950s. This train was known locally as the Delph Donkey. The very basic Measurements Halt was opened in 1932 to serve a new factory making gas meters when the firm of George Orme & Co., moved out from Oldham. I also believe the works was employed making instruments of some type that were of vital importance during the second world war and its location on the edge of the Pennines made it harder for enemy aircraft to find. The line was closed to passengers in 1955 and freight in 1963. Another photo by the late Kenneth Field. |
