Remarks & Notes |
Normally Utah Railway’s Australian SD50’s do not lead coal trains over Soldier Summit in Utah. This is the first time I have seen such an occurrence. I checked with RP contributor James Belmont and he has only seen this once and that was in 2001. This train is doubly unusual in that it is composed of empty hoppers. Coal moves west here on Soldier Summit and empty hoppers move east. These hoppers had been in storage in URY’s Martin Yard until today. I have no idea where they are going. The image was taken at Gilluly, Utah on UP’s Provo sub. The train is westbound. |
