On the first day of my honeymoon, I arrived in Dublin at sunrise, obtained our rental car, figured out how to drive a stick left-handed, nervously ventured out onto the roads and set off for Shannonbridge. After Bord na Mona management graciously rolled out the (muddy) red carpet for us, I found myself on on top of the peat storage silo at West Offaly Power Station, looking northwest over the town of Shannonbridge as an empty peat rake curved around the edge of the facility bound for the service shed.
