A pair of new GE AC4400CWs lead Southern Pacific's Salt Lake City to Denver manifest east through the Red Narrows of Spanish Fork Canyon. The SP really put this pair of newbies to the test with 126 cars on the drawbar and no helper to ascend 3000 feet of elevation in 50 miles of track between Provo and Soldier Summit. The RODVM did (finally) make the top, although it was a painfully slow journey getting there. The train was doing all of 20 mph when this moment was captured on Kodachrome 25 film on a hot July 24, 1995 morning.
