| This BNSF manifest is on Main 2 at the former location of tunnel #2. The large amount of earth required to be moved to daylight the tunnel is evident by the dramatic cut in the mountainside. Not quite as evident is the fact that photos here are now possible after the third main construction because the crews also removed almost all of the mountain between the Union Pacific Palmdale Cutoff and the BNSF tracks. That now provides a perfectly flat location between the two rail lines to get late afternoon photos in summer. |
