Remarks & Notes |
CNW 6705 was one C628 that saw very limited use after its purchase from N&W in 1973. It did last long enough to get full CNW paint but I started shooting Escanaba in late 1975 and I never seen it working in ore service. It languished on a radial track at the far side of the North Green Bay roundhouse from 1976 on for a few years. After some issues with reportedly a television station filming the oil soaked tracks around the shop at North Green Bay in the mid 70's the CNW wasn't receptive to anyone being on the property and I never felt brave enough to wander clear over to where 6705 rusted away its last few years. So it was the only CNW C628 I never photographed, thankfully I picked this shot up for my collection, probably from the late Joe Stauber of the 6705 at Adams during its very brief operational career on the CNW. The unit was officially retired in December 1980 making it the first C628 off the roster, but the carcass had been picked clean of any useable parts long before that. |
