Remarks & Notes |
The Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad once was a staple in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado with both narrow and standard gauge rail routes across this high desert setting. Today, portions of the former DRGW standard gauge lines here have been handed off the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad but some retired DRGW boxcars live on and dot the landscape providing storage for local farmers. These three boxcars are several miles removed from the mainline near Fort Garland but offer a colorful reminder to those passing by on Highway 160 of the railroad that once called this valley in the shadow the Colorado Rockies home. |
