As seen from inside a long-abandoned gas station along the old Lincoln Highway (later, U.S. Highway 30) at James Town (west of Green River), Wyoming, a Union Pacific unit soda ash train ascends Peru Hill on the morning of January 20, 2013. I have photographed this scene before, but thought that the addition of snow gave the place a new dimension, further defining the train and the skeletons of the old gas pumps out front with the light blues and white of winter. Five big GEs power the train, along with a sixth unit placed mid-train as a DPU.
