Remarks & Notes
Inside the worlds longest railway tunnel (Gotthard base tunnel or GBT), which will open for traffic in december 2016. The two 57 kilometer long single track tubes through the alps between Bodio and Erstfeld were built by Alptransit Gotthard AG, a daugther company of the SBB. The about 15 kilometer long section of the west tube between Bodio and Faido is ready and will see the first test runs this autumn. This section was bored by a Herrenknecht tunnel boring machine with a diameter of 8.8 meter. Now the inside diameter of the tube is about 7.7 meter. Low vibration track (LVT) system in concrete for a maximum speed of 250 km per hour.

Do you ever get the feeling as a model railroader, that you just might be creating something not "prototypical?" Same here.
