Remarks & Notes |
Only three of the 700 series ex Soo GP-30's ever received a full WC paint job. The Alco type B trucks and some issues with crispy electrical cabinets doomed them to be some of the first power WC decided to get rid of. They seemingly were like the cats with nine lives though and although most of them were parked upon the WC's purchase and rebuild of the ex WP GP40's, a few stayed in operation. Surprisingly five of them made it all the way to the CN merger although at least a couple were out of service at the time of the merger. CN had no interest in these units and the final five were soon retired. That stuff was a long way in the future for 713 as it leads one of its would be replacements east powering train 35 in December of 1990. The 713 was one of the few that made it to CN so it had about ten more years of service still ahead of it when I shot this photo. |
