Cumberland, MD 2/24/2013 - Amid the bright light of the west end yard throat of the massive Cumberland yards, SD-50-2 8617 waits its turn for yard duty. Once one of the hottest and strongest locomotives in the early CSX fleet, many SD-50s find themselves in places like the Cumberland yards, equipped with remote control systems, as evidenced by the yellow strobe beacon atop the cab. In the background is the former B&O steam-era locomotive backshop, now home to one of CSX's largest locomotive repair and inspection facilities.
