A pair of Burlington Northern “6-motors” operating as a manned helper set, shoves on the rear of a westbound BNSF freight encircling the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon west of Clay, Colorado, on February 6, 1999. On the point of the train and just about to enter the east portal of Tunnel 1 is a set of A-B-A Super Fleet locomotives, with GE C40-8W No. 829 leading, followed by EMD GP60B No. 338 and another C40-8W (No. 811 with large BNSF lettering) rounding out the head end power. A EMD/GE duo makes up the pusher set with a SD40-2 leading a C30-7.
