Remarks & Notes |
Charging toward the Lech-a-vute summit on a typically gloomy and damp autumnal Scottish morning, Black 5 No. 45407 leaves behind a long trail of smoke amongst the craggy lower slopes of Sgurr a'Mhuidhe and An t-Sleubhaich. At this location the West Highlands Line follows Allt a'Ghiubhais through a narrow defile toward the local divide separating waters that drain east toward Loch Eil and Fort William and those which flow west through Loch Eilt to Loch Ailort and the sea -- truly a magnificent place to watch a steam locomotive wage battle with gravity. |
