Remarks & Notes |
It's 6:05 p.m. and Rio Grande's Railblazer train No. 102 is minutes out of Roper Yard on its journey to Denver. The abandoned structures at right make up the Utah Ore Sampling Company, once a hub of activity when mining ores were shipped to Murray City for smelting from all over the intermountain west. The sampling structure survives even into 2013, although most of the glass is gone and the buildings are tagged with graffiti. I like to call the old Sampler complex Salt Lake City's largest pigeon roost. |
