Remarks & Notes 
This view illustrates how mainline rail grinders skip switches while re-profiling rail. They also wet down the track to prevent sparks from starting fires which clearly shows the "skip" over the switches. Other equipment is specifically designed to grind around switches and those areas are worked in a separate pass.
