| Rio Grande auto train 179 rambles west along the shoreline of 'Thistle Lake' on D&RGW's newly relocated mainline in Spanish Fork Canyon. The atmosphere is filled of dust as contractors rebuild US Highway 6 through nearby Billy's Mountain. The lake will be completely drained by winter and US Highway 89 will be rebuilt, crossing the mainline near the location of the caboose and extending down to the former town of Thistle. Seems difficult to believe this all happened 30 years ago. |
