In an attempt to recreate the famous "Cheltenham Flyer" express from years ago,Vintage Trains Ltd. attempted a non stop run over the 114 miles from Gloucester to London Paddington on the 11th May 2013.In typical weather (dull and dull),ex Great Western Railway "Castle" class 5043 "Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe" (built Swindon 1936) storms up the 1 in 50 incline of Sapperton Bank,on the "Golden Valley" route between Stroud and Kemble. The loco had a clear run all the way, reaching the London terminus some 40 minutes early, recording a time of 2 hours 16 minutes - not bad for a loco 77 years old !!
