Remarks & Notes

The Republic yard switcher moves coal hoppers into position to emptied by the rotary car dumper. The bulldozer on the pile is a Caterpillar D11. There is approximately 1.8 millions tons of coal in the pile. Also, the pointed top mountain to the far left in the background is Pilot Mountain, or "Mt Pilot" as they used to say on The Andy Griffith Show. In the distant background you can see part of the Blue Ridge Mountains which is where the Blue Ridge Parkway is located. The mountain in the center of the background is Hanging Rock State Park.
