Remarks & Notes
The last of actual (non preservation) working steam operations in South Africa is carried out at the Saiccor Paper Mill at Umkomaas on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast. This is Saiccor No. 1 working the timber & coal Exchange Yard at Umkomaas. Saiccor No.1 is ex South African Railway Class 19D No. 2697 and is one of 268 of this class placed in service. She was built in 1938 by Borsig and is still now, 75 years on, in regular service, sharing shunt duties with two of her sisters, No. 2633 & No. 2767.
