The headlight from Southern 385 illuminates recently restored caboose NYS&W 0112 at the Whippany Railway Museum. This caboose was purchased from Susquehanna by the Morristown & Erie in 1982 and operated as M&E 4 in regular freight service through 2011. It was donated to the museum in 2012 and was recently restored to it's original NYS&W red and silver paint. Visitors to the museum can actually ride in this caboose as it is often used on seasonal excursion trains.
Have you ever watched cabooses, enjoyed their uniqueness, wondered about the men inside, or the jobs they do? Once an everyday sight on the rails, they have decreased in numbers, yet they are a very important part of railroad history.
