Ackworth Station which opened in 1879, saw it's last passenger train departure way back in 1951. Only the goods shed now remains, (converted to a house) to remind us of times long now passed. Happily, steam still thunders along the route occasionally as 'Duchess of Sutherland' proves in some style. She is returning, in glorious evening light, southward to Derby and will have covered 325 miles during her day out to Newcastle.
