| That's no model railroad... its just Tehachapi. It's doubtful that many of the motorists driving up or down the paralleling 58 freeway, partially hidden in the foreground, truly grasp the awesome battle that goes on just out their windows. BNSF's westbound Z ALTNBY takes center stage in that great battle against gravity, carefully slipping down the western slope of the Tehachapi grade. The train which seems to be twisted like a pretzel is strung out between the 5th crossing of the Tehachapi creek at MP 350.2 and the west end of Walong where the train's rear end is still heeling to the curves of the Tehachapi Loop. Soon another battle will be over and quiet will again befall the special landmark of mountain railroading. |
